ABSTRACT

Particle size is one of the important criteria for cathode materials. Particle size affects the  electrochemical process which is the mechanism of a Li-ion battery. The cathode material, LiCo0.55Ni0.4Ti0.05O2, was prepared using a self-propagating combustion (SPC) method. X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) was carried out for phase analysis and Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM) was used to obtain the crystallite size of the sample. A particle sizer is also used to determine the particle size but only gives the well dispersed size of the powder particles and will not give any information on the size of the crystallites. Therefore, in this work the crystallite size was measured using microscopy technique while particle size distribution was measured using a particle sizer.
