A good artificial bone substitute have carbonate content in a range of 4 to 8 wt. %. This study is on biphasic gypsum-carbonated apatite granules as bone substitute. Gypsum which is known as calcium sulphate dihydrate (CSD) granules was immersed into the 1 M of carbonate and phosphate salt solution at 50 ˚C in different treatment time. Effect of immersion time on the fabrication of biphasic granules were studied using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM-EDX) and BET analysis. CSD was successfully transformed into carbonated apatite to form biphasic granules and treatment time influenced the formation of this biphasic phase.
