Azadirachta indica A. Juss (Neem) has been traditionally used as an herbal plant. Neem is known to have cytotoxic activity, anti bacterial, antifungal and hypoglycemic property. It also has genotoxic effect. It is used in beauty industry, used as natural cosmetics and organic skin care products. Recently Neem leaves extract has been reported to have anticancer properties, although the mechanism for the bioactivity is to be elucidated. In this research, we prepared an ethanol extract from dried Neem leaves and investigated the apoptotic process involved in its growth-inhibitory effect on MCF-7 human breast cancer cells. A crude ethanol extract of Azadirachta indica (neem) leaves demonstrate cytotoxic effect on breast cancer cell lines, with IC50 value of 53 ig/ml. The morphological changes of breast cancer cell lines (MCF-7) after being treated with neem (Azadirachta indica) leaf extract were chromatin condensation and apoptotic body formation. This process confirmed by TUNEL assay and was viewed under confocal microscope.
